First of all sorry, for the let down. No pics here.

I recently had someone offer a Emerson with a glass breaker mod. It looked like it was pushed into the backspacer. Not sure if it was screwed in or put in some other way (pics were dark).

I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this and how it is done ?

Very interesting. The backspacer on my Benchmade Bedlam has a glass breaker incorporated into it. A craftsman with the proper materials could probably work one up.

My Mini Commander's butt is relatively pointed, it may be able to be used as a glass breaker. Also, on all the Emersons I have owned there is a bit of blade tang sticking out of the top when closed. That might work too. I haven't tried either this is just speculation.

Google search for Yester5. He offers this mod. I believe he replaces the spacer, but his work is top notch.

Some people get a custom made backspace made in Ti to use a glass breaker. Lots of variations!

Here is a pic of the mod. But not very good one. So it is hard to tell:

Looks like you could order a glass breaker, and drill the appropriate sized hole in the back spacer and thread it in.

That is what the owner just emailed said he did. He drilled a hole and tapped it, then installed the glass breaker.

I just never seen this before and since we are negotiating a trade I wondered if this was a "stable" mod and if anyone had experience with doing it?

The newer knives come with standoffs, not the solid back spacer, I would think this would still be stronger than the standoffs. I like it.

Here's a dumb question. Could you bust out a car window using the part of the blade tang that sticks out when the knife is closed?

I did that made it out of a thumb stud from a benchmade 913. It's drilled and tapped and screwd in with a little blue locktight. I sold that knife about 2.5 years ago on hear.

I've seen someone make a whole new backspacer from Ti, and it rode about 2-3mm proud over the scales with a carbide glassbreaker tip tapped and screwed into the end.

ha ha ha!

Well always nice to hear from the source.

Some of the Emersons... like the CQC-7 line have a bit of the tang sticking out of the pivot end when the blade is closed... Sorry, I can't furnish a pic right now to explain what I mean, but... Anyway, this seems like it would function as a glass breaker, in a pinch...

This is what I was wondering. The key is to hit he window near one of the corners, not dead Center.

Everyone that I have owned (4 total but 3 currently)has had this. I think they all do. I'm sure someone else can swoop in and confirm.

2001 Raven, Gentleman Jim, and Mini Commander respectively.
