Hello there,

I wanted to bring up a suggestion to the team at SOG and since I haven't been a regular for quite some time due to a busy life I don't know if my suggestion will be one that has been brought up already. As someone in the public safety field my tools for law enforcement are carefully chosen everyday when I suit up at home before driving to another county 45 minute away for work (live where I don't work and shit where I don't eat :D).

I just came back from my vacation today (9 days of paradise) and my first call of the shift is a 2 vehicle collision with injuries. As I race away to the location I realize that I am carrying my SOG Aegis that I just purchased on my vacation to San Antonio at Bass Pro Shops - Outdoor World. What gets my attention is that just prior to my vacation I was carrying a combination of an Umnumzaan (glass breaker build in) and my SOG Trident (groove for seat belt). For fathers day I was provided the funds to get a new knife and I chose a Benchmade 915 Triage for the features built into the knife (glass breaker, safety hook, and thick blade).

Finally, my question is as the title suggests, could SOG incorporate glass breaker tips on their knives? Not just on a rescue type model, but something for EDC for public safety, average joe's, and sheepdogs? Perhaps just simply sticking a stud on the end of a pocket clip like on the 0500 mudd model by ZT. The pocket clips could be sold for older models (say $5 shipped) and then just incorporated into the newer models for next year. It wouldn't add much or any weight and would give that extra consideration for those of us who might need to use that feature and could cause a decision in a new purchase for people like myself.

I love my SOG Aegis, and it's on me right now, but unfortunately I still need a glass breaker just in case so my benchmade 915 triage is still clipped to my cargo pocket of my duty pants. I'd like to just have a glass breaker tip on the pocket clip of my Aegis, so I would like to know if that could happen in the near future.

By the way, the Aegis is the perfect blend of everything SOG and more. Perfect blade centering, no blade play and still opens quickly with SAT, great ergonomics, low pocket clip, grip in all the right places (everywhere), lightweight, and thin.

Whether or not this is a possibility, I'll set up a quick poll to see how the guys here feel about the idea.

Take care and God bless, J.

Interesting thought and I'd like to hear what everybody says/thinks on this. Please feel free to add some more comments to this about adding a glass breaker option to SOG knives.

I'd love to see a carbide tip incorporated in a model or two as well.

I got a Spyderco Assist not too long ago and it's interesting how they incorporated the retractable breaker tip. Something along those lines would be great.

A trident with a glass breaker would be awesome. I've always wanted a trident (and still do) but came across a Flash II for sale and got that instead. A SOG rescue-style knife would be a cool concept: highly rust resistant steel (not sure what SOG has available, like H-1 or N680, but if its SEAL knife can be used as a dive knife, then the steel for that (AUS-6A?) should be sufficient), glass breaker pommel or spring loaded, sheepsfoot full serrated or half-serrated blade, cut-out in the handle for easy access to the blade, cut out in the handle for an O2 wrench (to open oxygen tanks). THAT would be cool.

Also, a dedicated hook-style seat belt cutter with a built-in sharpened tip for glass breaking and an O2 wrench would be cool too and could add to a SOG lineup of emergency tools.
