I want to know if there are benefits to Glass Ceramic platen plate over the steel platen plate & if it is worth doing.?

Yep!!......................................
It will extend belt life and reduce friction, heat, belt bumping and all sort of other grinding by products..Also if used correctly it will make you smarter and better looking :D

Then I guess you haven't been using it correctly. You're still uglier than Linda Tripp coming at you naked with a box of rubbers and dumber than a bag of hammers. :D :jerkit:

Louis is right (up until the part about smarter & better looking...I'm still ugly as sin ;) ). I had the chance to try out a KMG with a pyroceram platen liner at somebody else's shop...I had one laying around but hadn't installed it yet. I ran home and glued it up before my next trip into the shop! One of the best investments I've yet made...

Just...umm dont get anything caught between the tool rest  I had a few shards of that thing go flying all the more reason to wear eye protection.

Weld a little piece of bar stock to the bottom of your platen. This will make a small lip for the glass platen to rest against. If the glue fails the glass won't slip down into the lower wheel.

Its worth it the platen if left bare will wear, then you will have problems.

For some reason, I've been making "dips" in my pyrocerams. I heat-treated my platen and it works fairly decent, but will probably get another glass and hope I just had some bad batches.
