I'm sure this has probably been discussed before but I was unable to find anything on it in the search bar. The sheaths that come with the 1212 model utility knife that are the glass filled nylon don't they dull the knife? I ordered me a spec ops combat master in coyote tan just in case but would prefer the glass filled nylon sheath if possible.

Also, what about sharpening the swedge? Anyone done that on here?

It has been discussed before. They used to. The formula was changed and "fixed" issue.

Many folks have sharpened the swedge. You just have to be careful with your local laws. Depending on the jurisdiction/case law/state law/local laws/etc/etc.... sharpening a swedge or false edge MAY convert a legal single edged knife into an illegal dagger.

From your screen name. I am assuming you are in Tennessee. Check your laws there to verify legality.

In Texas, sharpening a swedge or false edge, by case law, converts a legal single edge knife to an illegal (to carry) dagger.

That being said, a 1212 is already an "illegal" knife in Texas (blade longer than 5.5"). I can (and do) own them, I just can't carry them in public.

The shorty series (125x-126x) Kabars are legal for public carry in Texas, (caveat - check local laws - we don't have pre-emption yet) unless one sharpens the swedge.

As of July 1, 2014 Tennessee repealed its knife law to do away with under 4.5" blades as intent to go armed! Its my understanding carrying a kabar in public would not be illegal now.

Bowie's are legal,
Daggers are considered legal,
Switchblades are legal
Knives of any length are legal
