Hi all,
Does anyone have a contact for glass platens? I called everyone in Baltimore. The best I did was $98 and a few weeks wait. That seems high for a 2x8 piece of glass. Any suggestions?

They want to sell a square foot or more at a time, but often will cut into pieces for free. You will need a silicon carbide belt to clean up the edges if they don't. I've heard the ceramic stuff will work well also. I'm averaging about $10 per piece on the glass.

try ceramic tile. a 2" by 4", 6", or 8" with rounded corners. biggest piece should be less than $2 at big box hardware. my first ones lasted 2 years before replacement.

I just bought some the other day. First local glass shop I called sells it by the inch, a 2x7 piece to fit my grinder was $14. They even finished the edges damn near perfectly, had a 60 grit silicon carbide belt, and didn't even need to use it.
If you ask for "the glass for fireplace doors" you might have better luck with the counter person

I second these guys.
The edges seemed more consistent with better quality control than the ones I've bought from another knife supply store.
I have bought from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371485320145?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

great product/ price and service.

BTW, where are you located? I'm up in HarCo.

These guys are the only option as far as I'm concerned. Fast shipping, clean accurate cutting, and the best price I've found anywhere. I've ordered from at least a couple other suppliers in the past (when they were in stock), and either the price was close to double what the ebay sellers are asking, or the edges were uneven.

I bought a 4 foot length for 25 dollars, just Google pyroceramic glass

Care to share where you found it for that price? Everywhere I've found was always more expensive to buy a larger piece to cut, than it was to just order from the guys mentioned above.
