Global kitchen knives... what steel?

hi all,

i was given a Global G-2 20cm cook's knife for my birthday last week, and the only info i can find on the steel is that it's "chromova 18" which is not a steel i've ever heard of... is it a proprietry blend?

the edge holding is quite good (apparantly Rc 58 - 60) and the balance is superb, but i would like to know more just out of curiosity.

I really don't know the actual type of steel they use. The company calls it a vanadium/molybdenum stainless steel that is ice tempered with an RC value of 56 to 58, for what that is worth.
