Hey all,

Made this quick overview of the Globetrotter. I apologize for the poor lighting, I wanted to get this video done outside but it's been too windy to do anything like that. I will be doing a field overview with some different uses and cutting techniques in the near future.

Hope you enjoy!

Thank you,

Jesse

Thanks for the video. It's nice to see it here in hand. Looks like a good worker. I've got no issue with the design of the knife or its purpose/functionality. Well done.

My only dig would be the sheath. I think KA-BAR can do better in that department because while the sheath might be good for this knife inside the pack, I don't think I would trust it strapped to my gear. I think the MOLLE system on the back is fine and would do well, however, the retention strap is the killer here; not a very good one at all I'm afraid.

Thank you!

I understand your concerns on the sheath. Though I can't say I can make a fully informed statement on the retention as I have only carried the knife on my waist a total of a few days tops (it is still a very new knife), I haven't had any issues with it. Would I prefer the sheath if I was runnin and gunnin in rough terrain? Probably not. But for around camp, hunting, or EDC, I think the sheath serves it's purpose. I look forward to using the knife a lot throughout the year and I plan on running the stock sheath exclusively just to put it through its paces.

I'm sure 710 would be happy to build custom Kydex as he has with other KA-BARs, and I personally stock a leather sheath for the Globetrotter made by JRE, who has also worked with KA-BAR in the past. I don't have any in stock now, but that's what I usually use for my custom Globetrotters and it fits the KA-BAR nice and snug and carries it deep.

Thanks for your input! See you around the forums.

Ah, LOL. You caught me before my edit. I edited because I felt I had said enough about the sheath, and this thread was, perhaps, an improper place for condemnation of KA-BAR's sheath designs/production choices.

I will be picking up a Globetrotter as soon as I can.

I have become a fan of micarta. And, I secretly wish all my knives had micarta handles. KA-BAR's micarta is done very well, and wonder if micarta or another handle material was discussed/considered before finally deciding on the plastic. I realize cost was a factor here. Are there any plans for KA-BAR to make micarta handles for the Globetrotter?

Lol. No worries. I'm open to all discussion of the whole package.

Micarta has been tossed around as an aftermarket thing just like with the Beckers, but I don't know for sure if it is a guaranteed thing. All I can say is keep letting KA-BAR know you want some Micarta for the Globetrotter ;) I would love to see it happen, and I am all for it.

Thanks!

Good tip. Now the real question is, how many times will I have to bug them before they put one out in D2!

Jesse- will you say a few words about your logo please?

Is it just a good looking design or does it represent something more to you?

It actually evolved from an eagle into what it is now. Ever since I was a kid I've had a fascination with birds, especially birds of prey. I wouldn't call myself a bird watcher, and I don't particularly study them, I just think they are awesome creatures.

Buddy hunts with falcons an absolutely awesome experience and seems like I can use the same expression when I get 1 of your knives in these mits of mine, gonna holdout for a folder as I saw 1 that had your name on it had white scales and a very similar blade shape as a person with over 200 ok maybe 300 folders never has a folder caught my eye so quick, anyways thanks for posting and hopefully a great relationship for you and Ka-Bar, this way we all win and let me know how I can get my mitts on that folder Thanks again and

OK. I can see that. Thanks for the explanation.

That is so cool. I've never seen a "tame" bird like that before, let alone witness one hunting. Has to be an awesome thing to see and be a part of.
I'm doing a lot more folders this year so be on the lookout! Should have plenty available.
Thank you for the kind words!

Thanks for the video! It is a sweet looking knife for sure!

Is there any difference in blade geometry comparing the KaBar version to your own hand made? I've seen many pictures of your knives, do you think KaBar will release a version without a swedge?

+1 on micarta :D

I've done quite a few variations of the knife myself, but the KA-BAR version is completely different all together. The geometry of the knife is going to be slightly different, as it is flat ground, and all of my customs are hollow. The blade is also slightly thicker than the custom version, though I have done thicker customs in the past. The KA-BAR is a more robust version of the knife whereas the custom is more light duty. They can both certainly take a beating, but the KA-BAR is more filling in the hand and has a little more meat in the blade, so it lends itself to a little more aggressive use. The high flat grind compensates for the extra blade thickness and maintains cutting performance.

As of right now we do not have plans to remove the false edge, but if there is ever an opportunity for me to come up with another rendition of the knife or maybe a special edition of some kind, I will certainly keep it in mind!

Thanks for the comment!
