Hey guys, I'm about to purchase my first gun, and I was deciding between the Glock 17 and Sig P226. I wanted to purchase it used in very good to excellent condition. Anyone know what the price range I will be dealing with? I'm trying find the best deal and place to purchase.

I'm sure some folks with more specific information will come along, but you might want to check "guns america" and gunbrokers, which is kind of like ebay for guns as they will give you prices that they are available for. Your local prices may vary considerably.

A used Glock 17 might be in the $300 - $400 range, depending on a lot of variables. I bought one new for maybe $425 (can't really remember), and a beater, refurbed 17 for $250 once but that was a bargain.

See www.gunbroker.com.

cheers

Used SIGs are available from SIG .These are completely checked and reconditioned by SIG with garantee. Then you know you have something good.Other than that way you don't know what you are getting. Both of those brands are excellent, durable and reliable.

I traded a Taurus 454 Casull for my P226. If I had to buy it outright it would have been $475.00 to $550.00.

Shann, thanks for those sites. I'm checking them out right now.

powernoodle, thanks for the price range for the Glocks. That information is very helpful.

mete, I can't find the used SIGs section. Can you give me a link or tell me where to look?

they are like certified used cars from lexus or bmw. reconditioned and warrantied.

for a used glock, i would not go above 300.00 for one with glock sights. a little more for trijicon night sights.

For a first gun, I would put the extra for the 226, I have both and the glovk is different but you can't beat the Sig

Do I call SIG and ask about those? Are they somewhere on their website? I was at a gun shop the other day, and "factory reconditioned" SIG P226 were going for $530.00. Does that price sound right for that gun?

<$300 for a Glock? That seems like a hard find, or maybe I'm looking under the wrong rock?! I don't see prices going that low on gunbroker.com

most used glocks i have seen lately were in the $350/$400 range depending on how used they were.

used P226's run ~ $500 or so but wasnt that long ago i got a LNIB P225 for ~$400 when they were closing out the 225s.

i have both and prefer the glock myself, i like the triggers better on them vs the SIGs but SIGs are good too.

Sigs are fine firearms and a bit more "polished" out of the box than Glocks are. That being said i myself own a Glock and if you are to buy a used pistol i would suggest a Glock simply due to the amount of aftermarket support. Nearly all of the parts can be replaced and are readily available.

Unless you opt to spend a bit more cash for the certified used Sigs which would also be a good move. You really can't go wrong here, both companies produce top notch sidearms.

I was leaning towards the Glock the whole time, but I just need to find a good price and a place. Either gunbroker.com or just find an FFL transfer.

The advantages of the Glock are: consistent trigger pull each time, as compared to the DA/SA of the Sig; fewer moving parts, thus fewer to malfunction; almost impervious to rust; less spendy; higher capacity to weight ratio.

This is not to disparage Sigs, as I like 'em too. Have a refurbed P220 and a P239. Next purchase may be a P229 DAK.

Beater Glock 17 with G34 barrel.

Whichever you decide; make sure to purchase extra magazines, if just about anyone gets elected; there will be another magazine ban.

Glock mags are far less expensive (I just bought 8 for $15 each NIB); don't go cheap with after market Sig mags; a lot of the aftermarket mags suck.

Yeah, look on Gunbroker.com, that is where I baught my used Glock 22 which had been retired from service as they were going to 3rd generation Glocks ("San Antonio Police Department" is stamped on the side). I paid 350 for it, by the time I paid shipping and FFL I spent 400. It came with 3 - 15 round mags. You could also try auctionarms.com for guns.

I was able to compare my Glock 22 with my brother's Taurus 24/7 a while back and loved my Glock more with every shot. His was nice, but mine was lighter and more consistant. I found a .22 conversion kit for the glock i'm thinking of getting, that should be interesting.

Good luck in your search.

I went to CDNN and got high cap MECGAR mags for my P226.
