Just looking into the possibility of a conceal carry. Glock does hold an extra round or two, however is a bit thicker (also slightly heavier). The Smith is a more familiar platform as I use the M&P regularly. Cost is same. Mostly comes down to shooter preference. Any experience with either or helpful comparisons are welcome.

Thanks!

Glocks, you either love them or hate them. I have been carrying a G27 for about 4 yrs. It is my goto weapon. Hasn't given me the first minutes trouble. Not pretty, but goes bang every time.

These, along with the Ruger LC9, were all on my short list. I could not find a Smith to even look at. I was told flatly...None in the St. Louis area to be had till Smith gets another production run going.

The Ruger was very cute... And cheap. But seriously little.

I have been carrying a Glock 23 for about 20 years as my duty gun. Well familiar with the weapons and the characteristics of the round. Also... I just happened to have about 200 rounds of .40 on hand....
So I bought the 27. Quite happy with the little guy. Enormous firepower in a small package.

However, the estimable Hickock45 was full of praise for the Smith.. Liked the trigger a lot.

I must say, my 23 has always kind of "beat up" my trigger finger as the safety-button re-sets with a little "kick". Not a biggie, but kind of annoying when doing a lot of shooting.
The 27 (a Gen4) does not seem to do this.

I've had the Shield in .40 now for just about a year and absolutely love it. Mainly because it's thinner than the Glock. I own 2 Glocks also (23 and 19 gen 4) and would carry a 27 if not for the thickness (IWB carry in a Croosbreed minituck for the Smith). The recoil on the Shield is a little snappy, but manageable, I enjoy shooting it. Even though the Glock is thicker, it has slightly less height for less printing. But since the Smith is thinner and the thinner the gun the more comfortable it will be when carrying all day, especially IWB. OWB carry I would probably go with the Glock, harder to conceal OWB for me.

Ford v Chevy..

I own and shoot a 26 and Shield 9..lean toward the 26 [more capacity and unnecessary Shield safety]..either meets my requirements. Never owned a .40 and don't intend to but sure they are fine.

26 in F.I.S.T IWB thin kydex and Shield in Old Faithful[kit] IWB.

Best.

Since I been carrying my G27. Not having a safety doesn't bother me. It makes you respect your firearm more because you don't have a safety.

How easy is the safety on the Shield?
Any recommendation for carry options, for either of these?

Ive got a Full Size M&P and a Shield, both in 9mm. I was just killing time one day and stopped by a few gun stores. The first had the Blue plastic display model of the Shield, but none in stock. This was the first I had heard of the gun. I left there and headed to another store close by, and asked behind the gun counter if they had any Shields in stock, and I got an almost unanimous "No" from the staff behind the counter. The continued to say that there were none in the whole state and that some of them hadnt ever seen any of them before. Another employee over hearing these remarks asked to which gun we were discussing, and once he learned it was the Shield, he informed us that he had checked one into inventory the night before, but hadnt displayed it. So out of the safe it comes, and into my hands, and I knew I had to have it.

Anyway, back on topic... The saftey on my Shield is fairly easy to operate. It doesnt protrude from the slide too much, so it's unlikely to be disengaged accidentally. It is stiff enough that you can just leave it in the Fire position and treat it like a gun without a safety.

My Shield 9's safety is fine HOWEVER I am a THUMBS UP shooter who uses a two-hand grip and have inadvertently ENGAGED the safety while punching paper..I know.. STOP THAT!

Probably more to do with my older, fat fist however I have never had similar issues with other semi-auto handgun safeties.

Best.

Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD (.40) I just brought one last week on I love it. Very compact and light.

The Shield has an external safety, while the G27 does not.

I would not CCW a pistol with an external safety.

Are the Glocks getting better and better from one generation to the next? Also, how do the Glock and S&W products compare in durability?

Thanks for the wedding toast idea.

go with kimber or sig. Yes they cost more, but are worth every penny, especially if it is for conceal and carry.
