Ive had this Glock Field Knife for a long time. The GLOCK knives are cheap and tough - a great combination. I like them - they work.

They might not win a beauty contest, but they sure do work.

I asked a buddy of mine to install a glass breaker in the pommel/hollow handle compartment of the Glock knife.

I would have been perfectly satisfied with a simple construction i.e. a pointy press fitted steel thingy, but (as usual) he went all out.

The hollow tube/handle of the knife was threaded and a stainless steel plug could now be screwed into the hollow compartment (insert/plug can be removed)

But wait, there is more!

My buddy installed a tungsten core into the stainless steel plug.

Would it work, I hear you ask?

Ohhhh boy, did it work!!

We had a big chunk of tempered glass window.

I aimed for a corner and lightly - lightly - tapped the tempered glass with the tungsten core insert.

Presto! The glass didnt just fall apart - it EXPLODED!

The GLOCK knife with the tungsten core is spectacularly efficient.

Why do this?

Well, it might come in handy if your work vehicle turns over on uneven terrain and one is trapped ... or something in that vein.

Mostly we just did it, because we could.

Please disregard the motorcycle gear glimpsed in the above - we had earlier had the bikes out.

All properly supervised by Sara, who does NOT care much for any motorcycle racket nor the fact, that she never goes along, when ever bikes are cranked up.

She bites the bikes, barks and looks at you stubbornly, as if the mere starting of bikes is an insult:

That's actually really neat. I may have to follow your example one of these days. I have one that I use pretty regularly, it has the saw back which I think yours is a flat spine. These knives can take a beating that's for sure, and surprisingly their heat treat on the 5160 steel is really well done. The only thing I don't like is the hollow handle.

Great idea.

Tungsten or tungsten carbide ??

Vehicle windshields are very tough. To free a person from a car use the side windows ,lower corners .

Carbide is brittle and wouldnt work.

This is tungsten - aka wolfram.

Actually an AP penetrator.

Yes, as mentioned in the OP, a corner of the window is the way to go.

TY.
Yes, mine is an old GLOCK knife sans saw.

These are good sturdy cheap knives. I like 'em.

The handle compartment is not big. Its plenty big for a tungsten glass breaker though😆

Glock 78/81's, people either love them or hate them. I'm very fond of them myself. That being said in almost all cases people can choose something else they feel is better, usually after spending more money too.
Cheap and tough are their best features, IMHO. I've found them quite serviceable in the field, after sharpening, although I usually choose something else these days.
I've found the best results in sharping mine have come from laminated paper wheels and medium course abrasives followed with polishing compound. After a good edge I can maintain it with a carbide steel.
If I had to choose between a M3 combat knife or one of the Glocks, I'd choose the Glock every time.
