This fixed blade knife is available from Cheaper than Dirt for under $30.00, plus shipping. It comes with a plastic belt sheath. Good knife ? Any idea what kind of steel ? Oh, and since I know little about steel ( I am learning a little about steel from this talk site) is it a good steel ? Thanks ! - Arnie

I used to have one a while back and thought they were real nice knives. Real tough and hold a descent edge. I don't know what the steel is but I thought it was comparable to 1095. Mine had the saw on the back and while it wasn't perfect it did work and the dust makes a nice tinder for fire starting.

Like Chris Rock says, "you can drive with your feet if ya want to, that doesn't mean its a good ****ing idea."

Yep...it's definitely not a bad knife for the price, and the hilt also makes a most excellent bottle opener :p

I agree that the knife is a great value. The construction is rock solid and the sheath system is great. IMHO, the only downside is that the blade ssems to have been designed more as a bayonet than knife. The narrow blade has a very steep grind that limits cutting ability. Makes for a very strong tough blade though.

Hi folks,
There is the official description for the Glock fieldknives.

@samuraidave
I tryed it - It´s very good for throwing.
@arnie
The steel is no stain and it holds the edge very good.
Blade 17cm; with or without 9cm long saw on the bladeback. Black coated no-stain-springsteel.

For $30, get one. Quick. Just dont think you are going to get a super duper slicing machine. It's a great heavy duty field knife. I was able to get mine pretty sharp though. Also, it's not stainless, so you have to give it a little care.

There have been a number of prior threads on this knife, some of which discussed attempts to get steel data from Glock. If you do a search I'm sure you'll find a lot to read.

I have one and it strikes me as more of a stabbing weapon than a utility knife, but I've beaten mine up in the field and it restored easily.

It is an excellent knife tough as nails.

the down side is as a survival/camping/utility the blade is too thin for my tastes.

as a fighter it is excellent.

The design of the sheath is excellent while I was living in NYC I used to put the on upside down it was so rigid that it held and with the thumb release made it a fast draw.

for $30 it is a great knife only to thin for my practical needs
