Today I went to shoot my Sig and took my girlfriend along so she can shoot her first gun(rental) which was a glock 17. Everything for her seems fine but only thing she complained was that the grip was too big and fat and wanted a slimmer grip. My question is if there is a glock that has similar size as a g17 but with a slimmer grip? I know we can always get a grip reduction customization but she prefers to leave it stock. 380 or 9mm range preferable and will not be a CCW

BTW, if anyone has other brand recomendations with small'ish grips but its not a gock, feel free to list.

all of the 9mm/.40/.357SIG pistols (ie 17,19,22,23,26,27,32,31,33) have the same grip circumfrence, the .45 frame does come single stack, but its probably no slimmer than the smaller frame w/the double stack. i know its still way too thick for small hands. at least one gunsmith offers a frame reduction were they reduce the circumfrence of the grip on glocks by a pretty fair amount, but cant comment on it as i have only seen pics.my wife has small hands and she carried a SIG P225 9MM for several yrs, shot it ok but was still too large, we looked at lotsa guns, 'J' frame S&W snubs, SIG P239, H&K P7, S&W 3913, glocks, all to large. them we tried to kahr P9 and PM9, perfect!! now, w/the kahr she shoots better than w/the SIG, and a much smaller/lighter gun for edc too, at the loss of 1 round (9 for SIG, 8 for kahr)

so, imho if ya have small hands (really small) the kahr, or the grip reduction, probably would work.

good luck

She may find that the grip on the Springfield XD line of pistols is easier for her to handle than the Glock in a similar type of gun. Have her go to a gun shop and handle as many different guns as she can. The single stack guns will likely be a better fit than the high capacity guns.

My woman recently settled on the Kahr as well. It fits her hands the best, and you can get it in a few different calibers. For some reason she won't carry a 10mm like I asked her to. Ah well.

Try this link. It is to Brownells website and they have an article on reshaping the grip on the GLOCK. I am a huge fan of the GLOCKS. I think a 19 with a little off the back would help.

Take a look at her trigger finger and see how far the reach to the trigger is. Take a look at her grip in the circumfrence and try to determine if it is really too wide or just too long a reach.

There are other guns out there that would do like the Kahr but they are usally much more expensive. Maybe a Walther PPK.

I sent my glock off to Robar to re-shape the grip. The grip comes back just as wide, but they trip off a big part of the backstrap. It makes a huge difference in reaching the trigger, and in my subsequent accuracy in shooting it. If you like the Glock system, I highly recommend sticking with Glock and sending the gun off to Robar or one of the other companies that specializes in reducing the size of the Glock's grip.

There are a number of good guns out there so pick the one that fits ,that's the important thing. The single column SIG or the Kahr are good choices. Here's how to determine fit . First the shooter must be able to reach all the controls , safety, mag release . Second, ,face the target, close your eyes, point the gun. Open your eyes and the sights should be very close to being on target, otherwise pick another gun.
