Has anyone heard anything about Glock discontinuing their knives?
The customer service rep didn't have any info but did point out that there was only one model shown on the company store site now.
There are still a few sites that show them but a lot of the sellers list them as discontinued.
They may not be everyone's cup of tea but you'd be hard pressed to find a more durable knife in that price range.
I'd hate to see them go after such a long run. The test that noss did is still on YouTube.
He went way beyond typical usage but that is one tough knife!
He eventually broke the blade but if memory serves I think he gave up on the handle.

I've seen some clones of it but I doubt they will measure up.

I got one a few years ago for $18. It really hasn't seen any hard use, but it's easily worth what I paid for it.

I love my Glock knives. I bought them before I knew a whole lot about knives and they turned out to be one of my best earlier purchases. My black one is my beater fixed blade. I've hacked through 3 inch in diameter vines, chopped through lumber, even used the damn thing as a throwing knife for a little while. Only damage I ever caused was a little nick in the handle.

I definitely agree for the price it's pretty much impossible to beat. Hell, I prefer them to a Mora personally. If this is true I may need to buy another one or two just incase.

One can hope that existing old stock is being allowed to dwindle to nothing with the intent of introducing a fresh design. Like a Glock pistol's almost archaic yet signature recurved trigger guard, even decent designs get old with overexposure. And even Herr Gaston Glock can only hope to approach perfection, not attain it.

How is it getting an edge on one of these suckers?

Not much harder than any other 5160. I don't drop my edge below 20dps on mine just for what I use it for. I'd bet if you were willing to reprofile it it'd turn into one heck of slicer. Edge stability is great considering what I put mine through.

I've had my glock knife for years now, awesome blade for the money.

A quick search showed lots of glock knives for sale.

The sawtooth version seems to be more plentiful than the 78.
There are still enough at the usual price to avoid paying collector's prices at this time. This piece has been around for decades so there shouldn't be much of a shortage.
The price you have to pay will be the issue eventually.

It appears that the 78 (plain edge) was discontinued, while certain stores still have the 81 (saw back) in stock. Hopefully they bring back the 78, plain edge is my preference.

Surprised that no one has mentioned yet that Gaston Glock now has his own line of knives.

I send an e-mail to the Glock Company, and they answered that the FM 78 is being produced in black only.
So it is still being made, but only in black..
