I carry a glock 30 in .45acp. Was considering Glaser silver slug for obvious reasons...also have a g27 for backup; any suggestions for ammo there. thanx

Federal Hydra-Shok 230 grain for the 30
Federal Hydra-Shok 155 grain for the 27

Both of these loads have excellent reps.

If over penetration is a concern (indoors, thin walls etc) you might consider Glaser Blue or MagSafe ammo. These are pre-fragmented bullet designs that are quite effective.

Magsafe makes a round specifically designed for the G27. Very controllable and nice impact results too.

IMO, samhell gave the correct answer; I wouldn't mess around with those fragmented bullets.

But then again I prefer a Glock 19 with Federal-Hydra Shok 147 grains.

For my G30 I use Remington 185gr+P and for the G27 I don't think you can beat CorBon 135gr.

That is 100% correct, EXCEPT that the 230 grain is alittle too heavy for the short-barreled G30. You might want to give the 185 grain Federal load a try in that pistol.

I normally carry 230 Hydroshock in my G30 and was considering Glaser silver as an "In Crowd" defense round. Same for the G27. Just concerned about over all performance on the 27. I done some penetration test on 230 Hydroshock from the G30 at 21ft. into a bucket of wet newsprint. Good enough for normal situations "If you can call them that". Over penetration is the problem there again. Thanx for your help. Keep talking.

I carry 180 grain Hydra-Shoks in both my Glock 23 and 27. Never
know when you need to penetrate a windshield or car door and they don't over penetrate in flesh.
