I have a couple of these comeing in the mail.I was wondering if any of you have removed the viels and how big are they?I want to install one in the spacer of my Milli.Does any one know were I can get detail instuctions on how to do this?
Was just looking at my Navigator.I think there is enough room to put one on the spacer inside the handle to the back. There is a space between the blade and spacer when the knife is closed. The light should show through the slots nicely.

A glow ring is a key chain that has a tritum viele inside. The viele can be removed and used in other things. To see one do a search on ebay for Traser Glow ring.

The glowing vial looks to be about an inch long, maybe a fraction under an inch. It's stuck inside a hollowed-out cylinder in the glow ring case. The hollowed-out cylinder is 1/8" diameter. But the glowing vial itself appears to be about the thickness of a #2 pencil lead. So figure, roughly, pencil lead thickness and about 1" long, assuming the glowing vial can be taken out of the cylinder.

It appears to be glued in place. To get it out, you'll have to cut the case apart somehow. I don't know how sturdy the glowing tube is, so I would be very methodical and careful. Then possibly a few tiny dots of epoxy (messy and yellow, but it holds like nothing else I know) to hold it in place on your knife? Maybe someone else has done this already and can give some suggestions.

If you figure out a good method, and the result works and makes you happy, please post your solution! :)

Good luck,

Johnny

Spyderco actually toyed with the idea of having a tritium insert in the Military as a production thing. I think they decided against it because it was cost prohibitive.

One of the Forumites did his own modification awhile back where he put a tritium vial in a Military. You might want to try doing a search. I think there were pics posted on it too. It looked pretty cool.

The procedure he used was very simple, if I remember correctly. I believe that you just unscrew the backspacer and remove it. Then you hollow it out and put the vial inside it lengthwise. You then drill a hole (between the screws) in one or both of the scales, so the light shines through. Then just replace the backspacer and that's it!
