This is something I do for knives that don't fit in a clamp, or have irregular-shaped handles, etc.

I can't afford a "real vice"...so I came up with this. Basically, it's 4 clamps - 2 on the blade, 2 on the handle - with a heavy rubber band "pinching" it all together. Believe it or not, this made all the difference and allowed me to let it sit overnight.

I tried to get the pic straight on, but obviously didn't. You'll just have to trust me that it is indeed straight.

There were no "glue-lines" after sanding this one down either - always makes me happy. :)

Here's a pic of the finished product. You can see now why I couldn't simply just put it in a regular vice. Plus, I don't like the "squash-plate" idea even in a knife-vice. So, this was a good fix for me.

GLad to see I'm not only one who does this.

ANd thought that looked like naked Bocote in first picture, and paged down, and there it is. Still really like that knife/langseax

LOL...

Think "long wharncliffe"...;)

well...okay...but it sure looks upside down to me,,,you sure I didnt just point out something that you didnt notice until now?...LOL

:D

It's just the pic...if you saw the blade in person, you'd immediately know which side was the cutting side...:p

One more pic for DF:

I use one of those 16" Quick Grip Clamps with a slot cut into one end. Little more expensive than yours but works great.
Put a "C" clamp on the blade in front of the guard and clamp away.
