gluing in a shield

I dropped my Case stockman from a second floor balcony onto pavement. Luckily the only damage was the shield fell out, which I found. I was going to use super glue but thought I'd check first because I don't want it to fall out again and then lose the shield for good . If its going to fall out all the time from here on out, I might just leave it out because it does give it some character and place for my thumb to rest when I'm using it. It has a round Bass Pro Shop shield rather than the regular Case shield so it sits pretty deep. Super glue or other glue suggestion? Thanks in advance

Never had the problem myself, but most suggestions I have seen is to use a gel-type superglue (very sparingly).

You're very lucky! I dropped my Moore Maker sowbelly from pocket height and broke the bone covers. :( A 2nd floor balcony is a long fall!

I would use a 2-part epoxy.

Gel-type superglue is perfect and EEEAASY for this task; I fixed a dropped shield on one of mine that way. Takes about a minute or two...

The gel-type is less prone to disappearing into the grain of natural handle materials (allows it to set and take hold better than the non-gel types), and also won't run or create the same mess as a more 'liquid' superglue might.

I had the shield fall out of my peanut after sending it through the washer and dryer...I glued it back in with some gorilla brand super glue and haven't had a problem since.

I just replaced this OLD TIMER shield two weeks ago. The knifesmith who gave the shield to me (Dale Orvet) does a lot of knife work and he recommended using two part epoxy - he said CA glue (Superglue) will eventually allow the shield to fall out again. I used a two part epoxy made by Locktite (got it at Lowe's) that mixes itself in the long application tube. I put a spring clamp on the shield and left it 24 hours - tight as a tick now. OH

I recently added another gustock to my collection. The Queen made nkca two blade gunstock. Upon arrival, I found the circular nkca shield missing. Upon opening the main spear, it fell out of the blade well. I mixed 5min two-part and put one drop (a drop that a toothpick could hold) into the inletted area for the shield and eased it home. Worked perfect.

I wish we could get all the glue-in-shield companies to tell the exact name of the glue they use. I have been answered "quick setting commercial glue". Camillus glued the Buck knife bolt and hammer shield in there 300 folder series, but what with I do not know. They do fall out as the Delrin ages. You can still buy a good used one that's likely 30 years old with shield going strong. The new blue Buck anvil shields have a precise amount of clear glue. Looks super to me. Some first Dymondwood 300s have lost a shield now and then. I like gel superglue and I like epoxy. I use slow setting epoxy to glue important or heavy duty stuff like new scales. Would likely use gel super (or quick epoxy) and spread it around with end of paper clip but not so much it squeezes out the edges. 300

Strange, i believed they used peened pins to lock the shield in place.
Anyway regardless the glue you need to rinse very well the parts, first acetone then alchool before glueing.

I used regular super glue on my yellow 18 stockman, no problems since. The shield didn't fall though, but it was rising on the opposite side as i was applying finger pressure on the other. Took it out with my fingernail.

If you run the side of the shield you are applying the adhesive too across a piece of sandpaper
and take a small piece of sandpaper and rough up the inlet for the shield you should have more surface area for the glue

On acrylic and maybe bone, this kind of glue could leave some whitish "mist" . Araldite or the like would be safer IMHO.

BTW, I hope it did not break the pavement! :D

Many of them are pinned. For example, I believe all GEC shields are pinned. Most Case shields are glued with a few exceptions like the Case/Bose collaboration knives. Queen is about half & half.
