I’ve been thinking of trying something different. A Go Mai with mild-15n20-26c3-15n20-mild. Will I get much contrast with these steels? Are they a good choice to get a solid weld?

I don't know much about 26C3, but I did a santoku with mild-15N20-O1-15N20-mild a few years ago and there wasn't too much difference in the mild/15N20 layers. The mild I used turned out kind of 'grainy' looking. I'll see if i can find a picture...

The mild-15n20 is the contrast I was wondering about. I have done a few san Mai with mild steel/80crv2 and I also found the mild to appear grainy after etching, but I like the carbon migration it gets.

I got the billet pressed and drawn out after work today. Hopefully grind and etch tomorrow.
