This last saturday I met fellow forumite exsanguinate. He came to my city for a wedding and we met to chat about knives, and he brought me soem materials for knife making.

Putting a face to all of this typing is immeasurably a good thing. exsangunate was a VERY nice guy and we had a great time chatting about knife making, mosaic pins and steel. I bought a bar of steel and some micarta from him, but this was no ordinary stuff for me! I can't get the steel he brought me around here, and the mciarta he brought was black/green micarta, stuff I can't get around here as well.

So, I got to get some special materials for myself, I met a great person, put a face to a name, learned a whole lot, and got an experience I will remember for a long time. I'll be going to Robert Dockrell's shop in August to do some knife making as well. He has come here to visit me, so I am going to visit him! There are likely forumites in YOUR city or near you, so make the effort to go visit them and say hello! It is well worth it.

The next time I'm in Calgary, us southern alberta knife knuts will have to get together and meet eachother over a beer.

You guys are right on the money... I have gone to L6Steel's (Michael) shop several times. He's a great guy.. It is awesome to put a face and personality to forum posts.

A lot of fun - I agree! A lot of forumites know how close-knit the NC gang is. Every one of us "met" each other online and later met face to face at local gun shows. We all go to about 7 or 8 gun shows a year plus the Blade Show and the SouthEast Custom Knife Show. In all we've got about 8 folks who are a part of this infamous rag-tag group who get some wierd enjoyment out of scaring the crap out of local restaurant patrons with their elaborate displays of edged things

We always enjoy welcoming new forumites into the fray so if you're from NC and will be at the upcoming Blade Show, stop by table 18-B and say hello!

In addition to this, I've met a slew of forumites at past Blade Shows, SHOT Shows, and SE Custom Knife Shows who are all a great bunch of guys. I've also been welomed into the homes and shops of fellow forumites Darrel Ralph, Kit Carson, and Andrew McLurkin to get a glimpse of how they face the daily grind. Pun intended!

I have met some of the guys from the N.E. area at the N.C.C.A shows and all of them with the exception of Ray are great guys. No just kidding Ray is great to. It makes it alot nicer to put a face in front of you when yakking either here or in chat.

Crayola - you're 100% right! The NCKK gang has done Blade Shows, Southeastern Custom shows, NC Custom Knifemakers Guild meetings, local gun and knife shows, been welcomed into each other's homes, and always manage to have a great time. It's good to know that there are other people out there that are as sick as I am.

I don't know about this. I met a cranky old guy who goes the name "Ouch" here on the Forums. Did I say he was cranky?

You guys are dead on. After a while the people become more important to you than the knives. See a bunch of you in a couple of weeks.

Off to the drug store for now for more "Depends" (I always get excited at this time of the year)

Right on, guys!! Easyrider and I hooked up through the Benchmade forum - we seem to be the only Albuquerque members. We see each other 3-4 times a month for breakfast or bar-b-que's. We rag each other on the forums and over breakfasts, but respect each other and have fun. Been a rewarding experience (for him, anyway)

--- Next thing is to visit Nick Hyle in Las Cruces, another Benchmade forumite, who is also a knifesmith and temporarily can't drive up here.
P.S.- I'm also planning to visit Richmond, Va for the next meting of the local DelMarVa benchmade group, there. Great bunch of guys -I need to meet them and shake their hands!!
And then, there's a gent in Vancouver, BC that I'd enjoy sharing a Scotch and cigar with -- and another guy in Plattsburg, NY and ----- well, you get the idea.

I would have to agree with all that has been said in favor of meeting fellow Forumites. All of the DC and Baltimore Knife Knuts that I have met at the various lunches have been great fun to chat up and to share knives and kife tales with. I will be in Columbus, Ohio, in August of this year, and will be at the Mid-Ohio CART Races over the weekend of August 10-12, and it would be really nice if I could meet some of the midwest bretheren and sisteren then.

Hell, I practically lived with zantetsuken. He was there when I got two of my favorite knives. He's a great guy.

Yes, they found me and took me back to my special ward. By the way, I have to bring an orderly with me when I visit in August. Something about "flying the coop."

At the NYC shows, there's usually a table full of Forumites who include at varying times Lifter, PhilL, Nakano, Brian C, Sky Masterson, and a pile of others whose names I can't get typed in here quickly enough (sorry guys- lunch break posting
wink.gif
) Bob Dozier, Al Polkowski & others have dropped by for a quick chat as well. Always a treat to play show & tell (& buy TuffCloths from Nakano)
Hope to see you guys this November,
Mike
