I'm vacationing in Denver this week and next, and the first thing I decided to do upon arrival was to visit Spyderco. We're going camping this weekend, and I could have brought a knife in my checked bag, but I thought this would be a cooler way to go. The staff there are some of the nicest, happiest people I have ever seen working anywhere save for at some temples in India.

There wasn't a super lot of stock in there right now, but a couple things caught my eye - the straight-spine K390 Stretch, and the S45VN Paramilitary 2 (S45VN Para 3 was also there, but the 2 is my preference.) The S45VN knives were all hot out of the factory, as steel has been in shorter-than-usual supply. I chose the S45VN Paramilitary 2 because I've been excited about this steel's performance potential notwithstanding its potentially iterative mainstream in the contemporary steel lineup. I also can't resist a fidgety Para2 Spydie flick 😁

Here is the specimen I picked:

They also had Digicam G10 available with the CQI steel. I'm not the biggest fan of G10, so I'm debating the merits of Micarta vs Titanium to dress this one up. Micarta would be cool to make a match with the CPM-CRUWEAR when it is released, but I'd also like the heft of TI. We'll see.

When was the last time you stopped in at Spyderco? Have you had a chance to cut with S45VN yet?

Interesting to hear the SFO was pretty bare. I noticed many if not most things are OOS to buy through spyderco.com recently.

Supply chain and shipping issues are hitting everyone. Co-worker bought a BM direct and it took several weeks to ship because of supply chain issues and wild fire concerns according to BM.

I haven't been by the SFO for awhile (It's less than a 20-minute drive for me, that's good and bad... 😬), in part because of the low stock. Glad to see the S45VN starting to roll out. I have the sprint with the dark green textured scales, and I've been happy with the steel thus far. Definitely seems like an upgrade from S30V to me.

I used the blade for hear-and-there tasks for about a week and a half, including dinner prep one night. I cut the membrane out of a roast to make some stew, and cut up all the veggies on a plastic cutting board. The edge lost its sticky aggression after that, but after about 20 seconds on a black compound loaded strop it had regained it. I imagine putting a fresh edge on it will improve it's sticky lifespan, too.

That's it: Road Trip! I can drive there in 5 days in our RV, and have lots of space for storing what comes home with me...

I picked up a PM2 in S45VN Digicam in mid-May on a buy-it-now online auction site, you know the one. Authentic. It is indeed super sharp!!
