Anybody ever use pack goats? I have kind of upped my backpacking outings recently and was thinking I might try to train a couple. I raise dairy goats and make cheese all the time but I have never tried this aspect of goat dom. I have an old doe Angel that is 280 lbs so I figured a couple wethers out of her might really be able to carry a load.
If anyone has done it I'd be interested to know how difficult it was to get them to cross water. All of my goats HATE to get their feet wet. I bottle feed all the kids, so I assume giving them their bottles standing in the creek would be the first step. Also would be interested to know about what kind of shelter you use. I assume they could just browse for food.
I thought about a llama or a donkey but the goats you can just put them in a regular truck topper and go.
Anybody got any ideas?
