....turned 16 today, he is a great kid (can't get away with calling him that much longer). Got asked by his parents what he wanted to do for his birthday and he asked to go out for dinner with his mother and father and me and my better half. We drove up last night (they live a couple of hours away) and stayed. We had a great night and I picked on him without mercy, and he gave back as good as he got. Reminded him that when I was "his age" I was living on my own and working part time along with finishing high school... ;) ;)

He got some seriously GREAT gifts as well. He has been lusting after my SYKCO Regulator since he first saw and handled it sooooo I started looking around and, thanks to Gunfixerjoe here scored him a pristine De-Reg, he was going to get it for Christmas but he is getting an SLR Nikon from his parents for Christmas so I figured it was easier for me to get him gear for that then, so I "wrapped" the SYKCO is a Clinical Waste bag and gave it to him last night. He was pretty damn happy. He also scored a ZT350 and Leatherman from his parents along with a magazine extension for his Remington 700 and a Fenix light. We had a ball and I am proud to have been a part of his life. Though his mum (she is Sicilian) sometimes questions my influence (generally when they have had to attend his school over some of his better moments) she is still pretty happy with HER choice of Godfather for him.

Good stuff, man... Quality gear will serve him well.

Don't worry about the mom. Young men only learn to be real men by being around men. ;)

Sounds like a great kid :) Not many 16 year olds want to hang out with their parents and Godfather on their birthday! Nice gift you gave him, too :)

Thanks, as much as his mother sometimes questions my influence in his life (I think the Hawaiian shirts are the most obvious) she has figured that he is better off for it and that he has developed a damn good sense of right and wrong, that is not always shared by his school, not withstanding individual teachers normally side with him even though his actions may have been outside "policy". The regional director of education (Catholic High Schools) for his area turns out as having been the Deputy Principal of *MY* High School many years ago and during an awards ceremony (the boy is academically in the top 5% of the area as well as being way up there in athletics) he became aware of the connection.... in his words "this explains so much but also puts me at ease".

+1 THIS! Couldn't have said it any better. In fact, I couldn't have said that good in the 1st place. (But I don't have a graphic for it;))

This just gets better.... :) Just got an e-mail from his mother thanking us for heading up and his gift..... then I get abused. See I have worn western boots since I was a teenager (grew up with and in horse country here) and had a pair of polished black ones on when we went out the other night. seems junior took a shine to them and now is looking for a pair, of course his mother dislikes them (city girl) and of course blames me. I just e-mailed him a link to mine and where I got 'em.
