I noticed some of my "Bali-Buddies" were dropping in from the Balisong Forum to share Custom Balisongs, so I wanted to share my newest pair from Chris Olofson at "29 Knives".
I always have to beg-off a little on the pictures, because I'm still fighting the learning curve, and trying to master the tips "Coop" shared in his great tutorial on digital photography and photoshop but I did want to take a shot at sharing these knives. While I'm at it.., some of you guys take such great pictures.., and thanks -again- for sharing so many.
Darrel Ralph, Duane Weikum, Mauro Machado, Dudley Dawkins, and BF.com's Bali-Moderator Chuck Gollnick have all helped me with photo-tips, and patiently await "The Real stuff", but my work schedule makes it difficult to really put lots of time into it. -End Disclaimer-.., but thanks to all!!
"Godzilla"..., (Ok.., so it's nuts to name 'em...lol).., is a 5.25 inch latchless Balisong, and the roots of the design was a collaborative effort to have a "Forum Balisong" on the USN Forum. This process started darn near one year ago (late June of 2002).., and went through the usual process of (a) what blade-type...(b)...handle material (Ti-vs-SS)...(c) inserts, no inserts <~~ "The Usual Suspects" (pun intended).
So finally when some form of agreement took place, which is rare in the land of those who swing/flip/toss/catch sharp objects around for recreation..
, the profile was nailed down by Chris himself, and the first Balisong design with skeletonized micarta inserts was born (that I know of anyway).
I waited.., and decided I liked the somewhat radical re-curved profile, and made the decision to go with another set from Chris, but with different inserts. I have quite a number of his knives, and have collected Balisongs for far longer than worth mentioning
. I also really like the idea of "Themes", so "Godzilla & Bambi" seemed appropriate for these. I chose to "steal" (with permission) ~~>
.., the profiling of the USN blade for "Godzilla", and have "Bambi" as a side-kick. As always, it was fun working with Chris on this, and I opted for tri-split Nicaraguan Cocobolo inserts on the bigger knife (Godzilla), and split Gold-Lip MOP for the smaller companion (Bambi).
Bambi is a munchkin by classic Balisong standards, but I wanted to do something a little different, and a stark contrast to "The Monster"...
Special thanks to Chris -of course-.., Tony Wang, Felix Sheng, and all the guys who gave input and encouragement on the profiling of the bigger knife.

.., here they are.., and soon to visit Mr. Graley for living accommodations (boy does Gary put up with lots of sh** from us Bali-Nuts)!!!
