So this weekend, after years spent convincing my wife that the last time we went camping is not the way it's supposed to be (it was a terrible, terrible experience), we're going on a "trial" camping trip. We're only going 20 minutes away to a regional park. If it sucks the first night... we'll call it quits and come home. If it isn't so bad, we'll stay the 2nd night. Then I'll have the green light to plan more trips further afield.

This will be the first time I've camped with my kids; a three year old and an eight month old (YIKES!). With all the kid's stuff and all our stuff, our Land Rover LR3, which is a pretty freaking big SUV, is packed SOLID all the way to the roof. I doubt I could fit an extra frisbee in there now.

Hopefully we'll have a good time. The park is nice, with a lake for fishing and a playground for the kids.

I'll be taking my Fallkniven S1, RAT RC-3, Al Mar SERE 2000, SOG Field Knife, and a $5 fillet knife I just bought at Walmart in case I actually catch a fish. I'll be sure to post pics of the knives when I get back.

Good Luck, Best to stay close to home in your situation, with young ones and all. Take pics and let us know how it went.

Good luck!

Try not to get wrapped up in having to do "everything" while camping. Just relax and chill and hopefully it'll all come together.

My wife is kinda the same way, had some bad experiences camping(before me) and now she's not to keen on the idea. So, we had to compromise and she said she'd go camping when I bought her a camper. So, good luck and remember to make sure she enjoys it.

Good luck Ww. I hope everything works out well for you and your family, and you can once again resume an activity you enjoy.

We returned from China a week ago with our 2 y/o adopted son. We will be out of the camping loop now for a while. Hopefully he'll have a good grasp on the English language next year, and we can go on an overnight to a park nearby.

Good luck! My g/f had did little camping before and now we camp every weekend we can. There have been a few "less than perfect" trips but she looks forward to the next as much as I do. Good blade selection also.

Have a safe trip

Remember, this is your one shot to keep the missus happy, and if the missus ain't happy, nobody's happy :D I'm still trying to get my fiance to go 'Real camping,' but we haven't had much time for anything recently. At least you'll be outdoors this weekend, enjoy the fresh air :)

Have a safe and fun trip! Good opportunity to teach the family, test some gear, and figure out what crap you don't need to bring....and what you wish you did! Share pics!

Get some jiffy pop--popcorn

my 13 year old son still remembers the time we cooked it out on the campfire when he was 4

Have a fun trip. It is always fun just to be in the outdoors. Don't forget the pics, though
