Going flat black (head and haft)?

I painted my CS TrailHawk with kyrlon outdoor and, predictably, the paint scuffed off first whack. It looks insane with the paint on though!! :P

So, what paints do you guys use? I know that paint is going to come off eventually, but some paints must stand up to a day's use (as opposed to one swing).

Anyway, I'd also like to char my haft black, but I'm wondering what the adverse effects might be for strength. How do you mitigate any negative effects if there are any?

I basically just want my hawk to be all flat black... Thanks!

I used a torch to burn up a couple of hafts for my hawks. It does dry out the wood and leads to some cracking. Once I had the haft burned up I used a piece of PVC pipe with a cap on the end that was longer than the haft, and soaked it in lemon oil for 2-3 days. This really helps the wood to gain back its moisture and fills out the grain.

Once the haft was removed from the lemon oil it was wiped down and finished off with a few coats of wipe on poly.

I used Krylon Fusion OD green paint and it holds up pretty well.
