Hi,

Today I plan to get a 20lb propane tank to use for my one brick forge and eventually for a larger forge. I don't want to continue wasting money on the small 14oz tanks.

So what fittings do I need to go from the tank to this torch?? http://www.amazon.com/BERNZOMATIC-JTH7-095175-Hose-Torch/dp/B0006V6NKY

Do I need a regulator? Is there just a simple adapter I can make with black or copper pipe?

Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Thanks!
Alex

I would get a regulator and I personnaly use an adjustable one from a acetelene bottle (same threads). You can also get y valves that hook onto the regulator. I make up my own hoses and a welding supply can do this for you or sell you a simple kit to do it yourself. You don't have to have the regulator as the needle valves in theese devices control the flow well. Just an adapter from large bottle to disposable is readily avalible just goggle propane adapter and you will find lots of choices. These bottles do not have much pressure but, leaks a very dangerous. Make sure to check for leaks often, use soapy water or if you have a gauge, pressure the system up and then close the bottle valve and see if the pressure falls off. I always shut my bottles off when not in use.

For the time being, you can use an adapter hose ,available at the outdoor shops, to hook a camp stove or lantern to a 20 pound tank.
Then you can order a regulator and hose , some refractory supplies, and a burner kit from Darren Ellis and step up to a real forge. You will soon discover that the one brick forge is VERY severely limited.
