Going from gold to platinum, and overlapping

I still have a couple months left on my gold membership and am strongly considering bumping up to platinum on my renewal - however, I might just go ahead and do it now while I'm thinking about it.

If I were to purchase a Platinum membership right now, would I have essentially wasted those two remaining months due to the overlap? Or, would the gold membership months be rolled into the platinum membership?

I realize that it's a bit of a pittance that I would be wasting (1 year of gold is $30, $30 / 12 = $2.50 a month, so two months = $5) but, hey, $5 buys me a whole day's worth of food.

I apologize if this has been addressed before. I wasn't able to immediately find anything that answered the question.

If you upgrade early, you can post here asking Spark to prorate your remaining Gold time to Platinum. Whatever the value of the Gold will buy slightly less Platijum.

Coincidentally, I made the mistake of upgrading from Gold to Platinum a few weeks early and thus lost 23 days of my paid Gold membership.
