Going Native

I really like the design of the Native a lot! It has some of the best ergonomics of anything I've handled and I love the blade shape. My only quibble is that I would sometimes like something a bit bigger. Is there any chance that Spyderco might someday release a larger version? Something with a 4" blade would be wonderful! Or, since I live in Texas, how about a 5.5" version!

Sincerely, I saw time ago a picture of a proto Large Native and it wasn't nothing of interesting. Take present that I'm a Native fan.

Yeah, there was a prototype for a large Native floating around a couple of years ago. It was called the "Chief" for awhile, but then the name was changed to "Native Pride".

Chinook: Thanks for the info. That picture looks like just what I want!

Now what do we have to do to talk Spyderco into producing the thing? Can Sal comment on why the prototype hasn't been produced?

Hi Bob. The Native "Pride" was shown at the SHOT show and received a nice reaction. The only reason that we haven't produced it is because we have too many new offerings and can only produce some of them.

Maybe we'll try to squeeeezzze in a batch. But it doesn't look likely in the near future.

Thanks for the update. How many would I have to personally order to make a small run worthwhile?

Can you tell me the length of blade and handle on the "Native Pride"?

I would think the popularity of the Native would carry over to a larger version. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can fit it into the production schedule eventually...and I will try to wait patiently.

Incidentally, I seem to be turning into a major Spyderco knut. I'm not a collector who has to have them all, but I do like to have different knives for different purposes. So far over half of them are turning out to be Spydercos.
