Going nuts again (update) and question about Al Mar

Hi guys,
Well, I received a couple of nice knives last week and didn't like either one enough to keep 'em.

One : the small Seb with CF. Too shiny! And I didn't like the way the CF felt in the hand very much. It was nice and light but just didn't feel right. Blocky in the hand. And for the first time I noticed non-symmetry with the blade. The blade seemed to my eyes to be ground higher on one side than the other. I kept turning it over wondering if my eyes were playing tricks. These two aspects got me to put it back in the box pretty quickly, and so it goes... too expensive to have mixed feelings about.

Next I received a Fallkniven FH9, which was in fact a stunning knife and oozed Swedish perfection. But when I compared it side by side with my U2... the blades were essentially twins. Yes, the FH9 is far more elegant and the weight/heft of it makes for probably a superior, more beautiful knife overall, but... back it went. (this was my oversight about the blade.)

I am now lusting for an Al Mar SERE MINI. I would exchange the Fallkniven for it. Never had an Al Mar before.

Anyone out there had one of the SERE MINI's? Whatcha think about 'em.

I used to carry a mini-SERE. They're well made knives. Excellent F&F, great materials, as sharp O-O-B as any prod knife I've ever had. They tend to be a little on the pricey side compared to some other brands but I liked mine while I had it. The blade shape wasn't as useful for me as some others so I ended up trading it.

I'd think very carefully about what kind of knife you want. Buying and returning knives can turn into a frenzy. I'm guessing you lack experience with knives. I'd try to go to a store and try a few before buying one.

It sounds like you aren't sure of what you want. That is normal when you first start out.

Locutus speaks wisely. It is what somebody I know referred to as "a replacement cycle" ... they NEVER end. Take your time, find out what you want and enjoy it.

Thanks Guys, I know you are absolutely right. After this cycle, will definitely be a period of doing nothing. Hey I did go about 3-4 months not buying any new knife before this. It was Xmas! Had to! :) Appreciate the feedback.

I have a SERE operator and Shiva. Al Mar's VG-10 is top notch. The ability to get super sharp and edge retention is really very good. More so, I'd say, than my other VG-10 knife, Fallkniven F2 (still a great knife). Al Mar's micarta and G-10 work isn't too shabby either.
