Going out of your way to use your knife?

Do you ever find yourself resorting to using your favorite knife even when ignoring the tool would result in the task being finished quicker? Such as cutting the tape on a box that doesn't need to be cut, unscrewing when you have a screwdriver, opening the microwave?

I catch myself doing stuff like this all the time.

Not really.

why would you use a knife for a screwdriver?

The microwave thing I also do not understand- are you saying you push the button with the tip of your knife to open it?

No. Only thing I do that might be considered excessive is I have some old cardboard I use to measure sharpness when I'm honing my knives. Not cutting it so much that it needs to be cut, but still serving a practical use.

I'll cut up boxes with my knives instead of the more efficient boxcutter that I've had prior to knife collecting. I'll also cut and prepare various supermarket meats and fowl using my hunting and outdoor knives instead of my kitchen ones even though the kitchen knives are right there at hand.

Sometimes I do.At work we have earplugs in thin plastic and I'll whip out the Manix to cut them out.

Yeah, I sometimes do, I'll admit it. Nothing to dumb.

On SAK's and multi-tools, screw drivers are standard equipment. Even on other pocket knives with a bottle opener, the flat tip will sometimes work as a standard screwdriver.

I make textiles for a living and 99.9% of the other people I work with use scissors as the tool of choice and that probably is the same industry wide, indeed it's probably 100% scissor users other places.

For the last few months I've been using my knife instead of the scissors I used for the last 20 years ( I had a knife as well for those years, just didn't use it on the smaller cutting jobs which make up most of my work)
I started off having what I called 'knife days' when I'd just use my knife, then a few months back I went 'knife only'. There are a few tasks that lend themselves more to scissors than a knife, like cutting small threads cleanly, but I score big time when something big needs cutting.

It's one thing I like about my job, I get plenty of cutting action :)

I find a small pocket knife works best. Been mostly using a SAK Spartan but gave an Imperial Peanut some work-time and both knives did well.

I cut tape on boxes and slice open envelopes all the time. It's just easier, neater, and yes, I like using my knives.

Reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons when homer gets a gun and shoots his lights to turn them off.

Recently, I decided to see if anyone at the Post Office would look askance at me for whipping out the "tactical" Blur to open a stubborn overnight envelope. Nope! Made short work of it too. I love Wyoming.

In Maryland, they're so passive, they probably would have shot me. Oh, the irony.

I love that episode. Espeacially that part where he shoots his beer open.:D

Yeah, I find myself using my knives an awful lot.

Opening mail is just so much more exciting when you use an OTF :D .

And the Spyderfly? It makes everything so much more interesting because you have to figure out a routine to open it, and then to close it when you are done cutting.

I usually just pull ear plugs out of my ears, but if you are ballsy enough to use a Manix to cut them out of your ears, then go for it Van Gogh :D

Even though I live in the "United Republic of Maryland",I don't let Sheeple bother me.By the way,I don't cut off my ears,I am very careful.:p

The wierdest thing I'll do is cut the wrapper of my Entenmann's coffee cakes on three sides neatly with my knife so I have a lil plastic wrapper plate to catch the crumbs and keep my desk clean. It's better then just ripping the package open at the top and tosing it out without using it.

Yep, just used my CUDA MAXX 5.5 to open some mail today. Not in public though. Lots of sheeple in California. Post 9/11 doesn't help either.

how about using the tip of a knife for my PC keyboad. Yes its knife typing overhere!!

Wats your disfunction!
