I am heading out for an overnighter this Sat, looking forward to whittling some wood...or chopping some. What should I make?
I want some ideas really, no promises.:D
I plan on using a tarp and or some natural cover..no tent. I also plan on a fire..so other than these to thing..what woodsbum project should I undertake? Thanks for the ideas.

As long as there's chopping, I don't care:D Just have fun!!

Fire bow, I may sneak out for a few hours and give it a shot. It rained very hard a few days back so it may be a real challenge, but I've got to start practicing.

J/K:p, you should do a step-by-step on some camp furniture. That's something I haven't seen a lot of, and would definitely like to learn:thumbup:

Les Hiddens ( The Bush Tucker Man ) did a chair like that a long time ago , with a potato sack.

Sooo.... you saw the pics from last winters campout.
I actually learned that building a big shelter is fun...and a complete waste of time. Unless you are gonna live in it, for a long time, then maybe.
I am actually thinking I learned enough to go even lighter this year.
The forecast is for the low temp to be 6 degrees F. I did 8 degrees with just a poncho liner and poncho. I didnt utilize a heat reflector, and I wasnt in really good terrain. The weather was actually not so bad last winter...9 inches of snow, and cold...but no wind.
I dont expect any big snow this Sat, (but you never know;)) So I think I am gonna ditch the sleeping bag again. If I use my head, instead of my muscles this year, I bet I sleep like a baby.
Besides...if I dont bring a sleeping bag...I get to test more gear, and thats were the fun is. :D
Somebody talk me into a sleeping bag. I had it packed until about 30 minutes ago, and it fills my ALICE pack even in the stuff sack.

If I were you, bro, I would check with the weather service again. There is an huge storm moving up to the Eastern seaboard, and I mean a big one. I don't know if it's expected to hit where you are (or you're going to be), but check it out. They were talking about it on the weather earlier. Heck, I'm in California, and I know about it.

Take care and be safe.

:D I know...I think its due to be southwest of me...by just a little bit.
I am not to worried...this is why I camp in the winter...I like the cold. (famous last words guys:p)
I am actually a little bummed, I thought it was gonna hit us a day or so ago...It would have made the outting more challenging.

Well, just to be on the safe side, you could take your sleeping bag anyway. If you don't need it, then don't use it. If, however, you do need it, well, you might need it real bad.

You're a tougher man than I am. I was cold with that setup in much warmer temps though I didn't have a fire to help things along. There's no way I'd consider going out at 8° without a sleeping bag and I enjoy cold weather.
