I was out in my shop this morning thinking about all the hawks I've been making and I got this idea. If I only had a tree that would grow them. A Tomahawk Tree, what else.... The more I thought about it all I needed were some tomahawk seeds and I could grow my own. I went over and rubbed my magic anvil and this is what I ended up with.

Might just have a market in minihawk area. It would be cool to put them on a plaque. Kinda like a coat of arms. I like the spike one the best. :p

Kim, I think I could go smaller yet but if I do I'll need to get smaller hammers. I was down to a 2oz to finished forging the spike. Both these are 3 3/4". I don't really want to go whole hog on the mini's untill I find out there's a market for them. The bad thing about them being so small is they cool off so fast that it takes just as long to forge them as the full size ones. One thing I need now is to make a smaller drift. The hammer pole could actually be used as a tool mainly because it has some weight to it.

ya know jensen makes a little knife that can be lashed to a stick as a hatchet, and it aint much bigger than those ones. ive used a similar knife to the jensen, and it didnt work bad as a hatchet. maybe this could be a new survival item for small kits? i think your onto something here!

Ditto that. I can tell you what my family would do with those. They'd be given to kids as their first hawks, kind of like the first knife I was given when I was a year old.

yeah just needs a bit more cutting edge, and it would be a bad little hawk would it? put a long handle on it and that thing would be a deadly fighting hawk! light, quick, and lethal.

Ray I think you're onto something and I hope it works out for you. I heard you loud and clear about the forging time, that might be a tough one to overcome. What're you using for a haft? These are just too cool for words... :D

Dave, I was thinking about laminating to stick matches for the hafts....... After I made the haft for the first mini I realized I had some curley maple so thats what I plan to use on these. These two are just alittle more than half the size of the first mini. Now the first one looks huge.

Thy would make nice neck hawks Ray. Make a nice beaded sheath. Did you use small ball pien hammers or use your normal proceeder. I tried the small hawks using 8oz hammers and found that thy cooled off way to fast to make time forging them took just as Long as a full size hawk. Gib

Gib, These are both done my normal way. There out of two different star drills that were used to drill concrete the old fashioned way being struck with a small sledge hammer. They cool off real fast being so small. I need to come up with a way to do them inside the forge...... :D
