Going South

If you ever started to leave for work in the morning and had the feeling that everthing could (and/or would) end up going south before the days end, how would you change your EDC?

We are not talking about the end of the world here, folks. So no need to grab the Remington 870 to fight off zombies or anything like that. Your bug out bag can stay on the shelf. I guess that I am asking about things like trading out a low budget knife for something better or maybe grabing a second blade or some other gear. I know that it can be a difficult question to answer because it is kind of vague.

In my case, the budget knife ($25 CRKT) might get left behind to make way for my Benchmade. My Leatherman Wave would be added no matter what. Some sort of fixed blade might come to work and stay in the car unless needed. One of my backpacking stoves could not hurt, either.

If I get any kind of feeling that things could go south I grab my GP100 compact and 2 speed loaders.

My knives remain unchanged unless I'm goin woods stompin'.

Agreed. Why would bring a junk knife along any day? Things don't only go south on days where you think they are going to go south.

Considering that my EDC rotation is all CRK, no, I don't swap out for more expensive knives. Fixed blades and guns are also a no-no to carry around here, so they'll stay at home when I walk to work.

Your question is indeed very vague - what does "go south" even mean? General civil unrest? Riots? Natural disasters? If I had (a logical) reason to believe that chaos of that sort was on its way, I certainly wouldn't be on my way to work - I'd be getting the heck out of dodge. I don't worry about anything like that unless there's evidence to suggest that I should.

My cheapest folder is about 25 dollars. It's a buck Vantage. It can do everything my most expensive folders can do, but it's not a "flashy". :) Bottom line, with this in mind, no matter what folder I have on me I'm going to be able to create and improvise.

Now I don't usually carry a fixed blade on me, but how practicle is it in a city environment to lug around my Ontario RD4? I love it in the woods, but not in my daily routine. If things went south, I guess this would be my regret, but my trunk knife is a Cold Steel Kukri, with my own edge on it, that I believe would take pretty good care of me:

I usually carry a water bottle around... being dehydrated makes everything harder. My bottles have a few feet of duct tape around them and its always nice to have In addition to the para 2, micro desert eagle, and little fenix light on my keychain.

I prefer to read this as meaning they're all attached to the keychain. On topic, the best thing to have when you get that funny feeling is situational awareness. Back to the wall, eyes on the exits. A CS Ti-Lite 6 couldn't hurt egress efforts.
