Heading over to Arkansas next weekend and hope to get to the A G Russell Knife event. Looks like a lot of knife makers will be there. Any suggestions for a 1st timer? Will knives be available for a discount at shows like that or is it full retail? I'd like to get to handle Russell's Acies2 and maybe check out a small Sebenza but didn't know if I'd save any by buying at the event?

Dress comfortably, particularly shoes.

Allow yourself time to enjoy the show and the fellowship with other knife lovers. The conversations you have and relationships you make are freqeuently the best part of a show.

Bring some cash, maybe the checkbook too. More and more makers and small dealers are taking CCs, but many still don't and you can usually get a bit better deal with cash or check.

You should have no trouble inspecting an Acies2. AG's show and home ground so I'd imagine the majority of his stuff will be on hand. His prices are usually the same as his catalog, but you may get a pouch or such thrown in. Plus you save shipping costs.

Generally, stuff at shows is not full retail, but discounts range from zero to occasional great deals. The big advantage is you get to handle the item you're interested in and take the one you like with you.

Edit: As far as finding a deal on a new Sebenza, you might but its unlikely. Prices on those from dealers tend to be pretty constant. You'll probably have a better chance picking up one here on the Exchange, either new or used.

Hard to improve upon what Alann45 posted. I have heard a lot of good things from makers on AG's show. Above all, have fun and take time to meet new people. Always things to learn too when you get to go to a show that you will not pick up on over the net.
