This is going to affect traffic patterns and routes in Atlanta for months. Maybe the locals here can keep us updated.

I saw that on the news yesterday. Not good.

I'm local. Combination of new Braves stadium on I-75 and bridge collapse on I-85 is going to cause major congestion for likely 6+ months.

Local as well. If 1 cm of ice can shut down the entire city for a week, think of what this will do. Rush-hour today will be a disaster, next week is spring break so everything's fine, but after that I agree 6+ months of gridlock.

I live in Atlanta, too. I'll keep this thread updated with how the traffic seems in the parts of town I frequent: east side neighborhoods, east OTP, etc. Occasionally I go up Cobb County way, but not that often.

My office is next to the new Braves Stadium. The area around the Galleria is changing pretty quickly. Hopefully by June they will have most of the construction complete.

Thankfully the Braves have a road trip on Blade weekend.

Correct me if I am wrong but taking the 285 from the airport to the show should avoid all problems?

Yes, it will, but all of the traffic that normally takes I-85 through the city will now be taking 285 around. With a functioning 85 traffic is bad. Push that 250,000 cars/day onto other routes and everything gets significantly worse.

Thanks for the heads up. I will plan accordingly.

So GDOT stores highly flammable material under the roadway for years. (The flash point of high density polyethylene is 340°C)
The areas under the roads are known hang-outs for the homeless.
GDOT can't be bothered to even secure the material on a regular basis. (Gate standing wide open frequently, worn pathway indicating regular pedestrian access, etc.)
Crackhead is hanging out with a couple of buddies in the area, sets his mattress on fire with his crack pipe, mattress sets the conduit on fire.
But yet it's the crackheads fault. (Can we discuss easily foreseeable situations?)

In any case, it hasn't been the apocalypse that everyone was forecasting. Looks like lots of people are taking alternate transportation, working from home, or otherwise altering their commute. Granted it's still spring break for many area schools, but shouldn't dramatically impact access to Blade. Even more reason to avoid trying to get there during rush hour, but otherwise NBD.
