Hi,
I am in the wireless telecom field and I might be moving temporarily for 1 month to LA pretty soon. If given a choice to bring only 1 knife or multi function tool (LM Juice S2, Wenger Soldier, LM Fuse or BM Mini-Grip)..what it would be (taking into account the knife laws in the area). Pls limit the answer from the choices only. Thanks

I mostlycarrymy mini-grip during the week. Laws = folders ok in pocket, clipped, whatever. Fixed blades must not be concealed. Autos I'm not that sure about, but I believe under 2" only. Hope it helps, Mike

Is this because of the AT&T/Bell South "merger"?

any of those are fine, id take whichever is your favorite. :D

just no autos or balis over 2" and no fixed blades, open or conceiled.

you are pretty much right on mvf.

additionally, no locking blades on school campuses, even colleges and universities.

a multi tool is always a safe choice.

... Fixed blades must not be concealed....

actually there is no open carry in los angeles county fixed or folder if the blade is larger than 3 inches.

13.62.020 Carrying knives and daggers in plain view prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person to carry on his person, in plain view, any knife or dagger. (Ord. 11915 § 2, 1979.)

indeed, the fixed blade carry is per the california penal code. the municipal laws and county laws are stricter.

which is completely lame. CA law says fixed blades must not be conceiled then LA county goes and makes it illegal to carry openly, effectively banning them. :thumbdn:

only if the blade is larger than 2.5"

locking blades smaller than that are fine.

not quite, excerpt from ca pc 626.10:

"any person.... who brings or possesses any dirk, dagger, ice pick, knife having a blade longer than 2 1/2 inches, folding knife with a blade that locks into place, ...."

2.5 inch knife and locking blade knife are given separate descriptions, hence are references to different knives in this case.

agreed, i imagine the county code came well after the penal code section. la county and city codes are often a bit goofy, and so numerous no one could possibly know even 25% of them.

That's kinda scary coming from a LEO who works in the area!

When I'm out in public in the city of L.A. I'd rather not even show the pocket clip of a folder.

yeah. if you have ever seen the entire la municipal code, its like 12 volumes, you would understand.

i know the local traffic, weapon, parking, etc. there are codes for everything imaginable.

and not having any part of your knife show is a good rule of thumb. not that you would be doing anything wrong, but many people think if you have a knife, you must be a criminal. out a sight, out a mind.

and not unlike the vehicle code or penal code. the ones you can buy or get at the dmv are only abridged, and each about a thousand pages.

certainly impossible to know every code, section, law.

Thanks for the clarification. darn comma.

your best bet maybe to just leave all the good stuff at home, because you will be flying? i assume.

tsa might see that nice knife in your luggage and decided it may be vaporware..................and disappear.

simply go to the local mega mart and pick up a nice storm 2 or something else that you can get there or a native and then use it for the month, when you fly home if it dont make it, oh well you didnt spend too much on it anyway...............

thats basically what i did when i went to the bay area this summer for two weeks, i went to walmart and got a kershaw vapor for a beater knife and it cost me 17 bucks.
