I have been there in the summer, but first time for the winter season. Leaving the 21st. Any helpful ideas on clothing? I know cotton kills, layers save. With my Mad Bomber hat, hopefully that will be good. Any suggestions on places to visit while up there? Going to Portland.

If you can get up to Freeport there's the Freeport Knife Store. It's about a mile or so outside the center of town, which has LL Bean and all the outlet stores. Plus it's right nextdoor to a brewpub. Actually, I think the brewpub has a location in Portland too. Look up Gritty McDuff's.

Today, in Mid-Coast, it was in the mid 50s and raining. We had a few inches of snow last week. This time of year you have to be prepared for anything. If you don't mind travelling, there's Kittery Trading Post, Cabela's in Scarborough and I think they just opened a Cracker Barrel in Portland. Beware Christmas shopping traffic.

:thumbup:to that! Portland is a fun town to visit too, especially at this time of year.

Does this knife store carry ESEE? If so, maybe I can convince inlaws I need the 5...

I'm not sure if they do or not. It's been a while since I stopped in. The shop that I used to work at in Bar Harbor used to carry them, but after our main distributor lost the line my (mis)manager was too lazy to try opening a direct account. The dude who owns Freeport Knife Co. is a top-notch fellow though. And if you ever want ANYTHING Victorinox he's the guy to go to!

You'll have to hit the Old Port section of Portland for dinner and drinks. It's on the waterfront with lots of bars and restaurants.

If you like Japanese food hit up Sapporo. Or specifically for sushi then go to Miyaki. Andrew Zimmern of Bizarre Foods went there when he did his episode on Maine (a convenient excuse to visit his father, who lives in the area).
