Going to New Jersey/New York area in Aug.

Is anyone near Maplewood NJ? I'm going to visit my brother for a week and would like to do some hiking or backpacking. I know Tony is not too far...I think.

Tony is a little under a two hour drive from Maplewood...

Depending on the timing I might be able to hook up for a hike...Can you give us an idea of a timeframe that you will be in the area?
 
I'm less than an hour away from Maplewood. When are you coming to NJ?
 
Maplewood is about 1.5 hours from me. It really is in the heart of the megalopolis of North Jersey. Mac
 
Part of the Appalacian Trail is located about one hour west of Maplewood (via Route 80W)where there are some excellent day hikes. If you need more info, let me know.
 
I am about just over 2 hours from there and would love to come hang out and learn from the man :) If you travel just a bit south you are right in the Pine Barrens.

If the dates work out I'll head up.

Did a day hike with MyRight not too long ago. Had a great time.

I am pretty familiar with the area. We can hike the Batona trail into a primitive camp and hike back out, or Kayak an overnighter.

Hey guys sorry for the late response. Wow lots of fellow W&SS guys out that way. I am going to be there Aug. 11 (7:30am) to Aug. 17th. I have plans for the 14th but besides that I am pretty open. I will be without transpo except trains, and subs. I am in your neck of the woods so I clueless as to what there is to do. I will give my cell number to any who wants to get together. I really wanted to go see Matt (from ML Knives) but he is pretty far north if I recall. I think Dough (DP Knives) is in NY too.

Hey Bear I am in NY but the wrong end of the state. I am near Buffalo. Boy your timing is right just wish we could get you here for the gather on the 15th and 16th, boy that would be cool. Doug
 
In Maplewood NJ you are about 1/2 hour from The Watchung reservation there are some pretty good trails for a day hike.

as other mentioned the Appalacian trail is only an hour or so away.

The delaware water gap and PA are also only an hour or so and the Pine Barrens to the south offers alot of choices.

But if you want real adventure you are only 20 minutes from beutiful Newark NJ. Where survival takes on a whole new meaning. Like today 6 people shot in the city in 8 hours.
 
see if you can take some transit further South and I will pick you up in Lindenwold or something. I am sure we can work something out.
