1) Go as early as possible if you want a shot at the best selection available... this means getting VIP pass on Friday even if you arent staying for the weekend.
2) Dont be suprised to see a lot of nice knives already sold, as makers/purveyors sell and trade to each other before the public gets there
3) The bigger name custom makers usually have a lottery system for the opportunity to buy one of their knives... typically doesn't take place until after lunch (Lambert & Elishewitz do lotteries for example)
4) Scope out the table mapping ahead of time and plan to visit the makers you are most likely to buy from first so you dont potentially miss out.
5) Have a preset budget, and realize that it's probably not enough... that said, if you bring more you will spend it
