I'm going to SMKW in a few days and will of course pick up a few new blades. I have most all the big names in the collection.

-Spyderco
-SOG
-Benchmade
-Microtech
-Gerber
-CRKT
-Kershaw
-Case

What major name makers/dealers should I take a look at that I'm missing?

Thinking of a Buck Strider. That one goes on the list. Thanks

Al Mar, hmmm, never looked at one. Added to the list.

MrMojoRising, I'll be at SMKW on friday at 5 pm showing the SOG SEAL Revolver series, if you can make it then, look me up. :D

Robbie Roberson ;)

I wish I could make it by Friday. We are driving up from Florida for a little vacation at the cabin in TN. I won't be there until Sunday. Just added a SOG Vision to the collection. Gotta love the SOG.

You got a good one in the SOG Vision, I have one and love it.

When you get there, be sure to go over to the SOG knives and look just behind the counter on the wall, you will see my "ugly mug" framed on the wall.

I am the one in the pic holding a SOG Revolver and wearing a black hat.

Last time I went there In march the they had some CUDA quick actions at good prices. Not sure if you like them or not but thought I would give you my 2 cents. John

Well, you Will be missing Benchmades & Microtechs at SMKW.
They have stopped carrying both. I have asked several employees, & the general consensus is that both brands are too expensive. It makes little sense, however. There are case after case of cheesy chinese/paki blades, but they can't keep one of the smaller display cases with several BM/Micro/Emersons? (Oh yeah...they dropped all the Emersons, also.)
But, they have a few Harsey/Lone Wolf folders. They aren't cheap.

I understand there are big bucks to be made from the tourists busting through Sevierville every day with carload after carload of kids, but couldn't they give us One case of The Good Stuff?

One of the salesmen did tell me that he Thought they might get a few BM's in after they expand (adding about 70% more room to the south end of the building - supposed to be done in Sept.) They will be HUGE when they get this addition open.

Oh Well....here's hoping!

Enjoy your trip to Sevierville....the weather has been Beautiful the past few days!

From what I've seen of their website/catalogue, this place is a Zippo collector's wet dream. They've also got a bagillion SAKs, even the harder-to-find ones (just got a Pioneer Rancher from them, couldn't find one anywhere else).

I forgot who canned it, but there is some excellent Jalapeno jelly by the front doors. It's darn good.

Plus that's my excuse to the wife to stop we we are in the area. ;)

When I was a young lad I was mesmorized by the SMKW catalouge and I bought a mountain of SH!T knives from them. I recently recovered them from my parent's attic and they are now taking up space in my basement. Here's a link to some pictures:

The gun is a Career 707 .22 cal PCP pellet gun if anyone was wondering.

mr. mojo...

i just got back from SMKW and i feel i love with bulldog brand folding pocket knives. german made, and excellent!

also got a new SAK... a huntsman lite... very nice as well.

the quality of the bulldog blew me away thought, as i have never paid much attention to them.

i tell you what though, SMKW disappointed me a few times while i was there.
1.) because the were out of a lot of the things i wanted to look at, main stream things at that (i.e spyderco delica PE)
2.) i heard the sales people tell unknowing knife people there, many times by different sales people, that the customers should not waste their time and money looking at american made stuff. stick to the japan, taiwan and german stuff
3.) and they have done away with benchmade all together there at SMKW

i agree with the german knives (bulldog, hen & rooster, kissing crane and henkels) are good. and some (heavy empasis on some) japan (w/ spyderco) but taiwan... come on!

i cannot even believe that an american would like to hear such crap. and not get mad of course. "don't waste time and money on american..." whatever!

just my 2 cents. enjoy your trip though. it is always a blast for me!

thanks

Some of those bayonets could be worth decent money.

You may wish to try here and here to see if you can ID them.

We have visited several times while hiking and fishing in the Smokies. I always let my kids buy a knife each trip and usually I'll buy something too. The crowds in the store can be a bit of a turn-off at times, but I always enjoy the visit.

Agree with the sentiments on the lack of higher-end knives. Since becoming a regular at BladeForums my tastes have gotten much more expensive and what SMKW usually carries is lower end. A display case of higher end stuff would be nice. Enjoy your visit and buy something. If nothing else, get that honkin' big crock stick to use. I use mine every week to tune up the edge of something in the kitchen.

Jeff
