Hey guys,
I was gonna try my hand at making my first spoon here in a day or two. I don't have a crooked knife, but I'm supposed to be getting one in a mail at some point. Anyways, I wanted to start either way. The piece of wood I'm going to use for this first one is a chunk of maple I salvaged from a blown down branch. It's 13" long and 1.75" diameter. It's a little small but I think it'll make a nice little spoon.
I'm not sure what type of maple it is, but I know it's a maple (Acer) for sure.
Maybe some of you more knowledgeable tree guys can help out. The leaves were just turning very red and purple, 3-lobed with the 1st lobe being much larger and longer than the other two. I was thinking some sort of red maple but I don't know all the species. It doesn't really matter anyways.
Back to the point, does maple have a taste if using the spoon the eat with? What would be a good wood that I could find around Colorado to make spoons with?
Any good links or videos that could get me started? Any tips?
Thanks!
