Going to try out wearing a watch

Never really been much of a watch guy, but got the itch yesterday to start looking at some. Kept my budget pretty reasonable and ordered two watches off Amazon to see which I like better. Both are Casio which from what little I know is a pretty decent brand. Both of these were in the $50 range shipped, so they're not amazing but they shouldn't be complete department store junk either IMO. Any thoughts on which one I should keep? Or both? They will be here Monday.

They look like nice watches nothing to monstrous.

I have a nice luminox but I don't wear hit too often cause its so large that the crown hits my hand when I bend my wrist.

Ya most of the watches I was looking at were huge, and that's a no go for me. I'm not a large man by any means (5'9" 165lbs) and a large watch would look stupid and would be uncomfortable. These are more "midsized" from what I could find on Amazon, so hopefully they look and feel good.

If you aren't a watch wearer, the biggest suggestion I can give you is to find a band that you like. That is were the comfort comes in. I personally like the neoprene/rubber type bands. Metal bands seem to snag my wrist hair and I don't like scratching them (must like stainless steel body knives). Nylon/cloth types bands tend to absorb sweat and can hold a stink imo. The rubber ones are the most comfortable and don't stink (literally heh).

I also prefer a digital watch. I like to see a date on the dial, stop watch (I time things at work), and an alarm (great for reminders at work).

As for the two you ordered, I like the first one. I don't like the face of the second one but that's my opinion. I might suggest trying something with a neoprene type band to see how it compares to the metal bracelet.

I love Casio's. Most of my watches have been G shocks.

ps. I should mention that the first watch is more "work appropiate" depending on what you do. Some folks look down on digital+rubber bands in the dress code department (again, depends on where ya work).

Just my $0.02. I'm certainly not watch expert. I've never paid more then $60 or so for a watch.

They look nice, I'd keep one as a dress/ not scratched watch and one as an everyday "tool" watch. I've dealt with Timexes for a few years, Casios are generally on the same level. I agree with the guys saying find a band you like, if you don't like the band/bracelet you won't carry the watch.

Casio is a decent brand, and those are very attractive watches.
But if I were recommending a watch to a potential first-time wearer, I'd suggest something slender and lightweight with a plastic or leather band. (Most metal bands catch and pull my arm hairs.)

Good luck in your experiment!

The bracelet might throw you off wearing the watch.
I have had watches I hated until I swapped the straps.
My favorite is the silicone deployment strap from Countycomm.

I like the first one best. Casio is a good brand. Good quality watches and most of them are very affordable.

I love G-Shocks, which are also from Casio. The first one is smart-lookin' and more classy. The second may be more functional, with digital display. Depends on what you need. Of course, you probably need both! I like the rubber bracelets from Modena, very comfy.

Casio is not a "pretty decent brand".

Their G-shocks are by no doubt the toughest and most reliable watches out there. A solar powered G-shock will most likely outlast the lifespan of its owner.

I don't know about their other watches, but their G-Shocks are indestructible.

They should. Gshocks are the best digi watches in the world, and their analogs are good. Not Rolex or Omega quality, but good.

Casio makes great watches for the money, and in my experience they are pretty darn sturdy.

I can't speak for those types of Casio watches since they are not G-Shocks but if you ever decide to buy another watch for some reason, like another member said buy a solar powered G-Shock and wear it every day for the rest of your life.

I have been wearing mine everyday for around 7 or 8 years now and it still keeps on running like new. I have used it as my dive watch in Baja California, I've had it exposed to harmful chemicals while working out on the house. I use it as my watch while cycling in the mountains. I even use it when I am riding the track on my dirt bike. It has taken many impacts that would shatter a Rolex or Omega and it still keeps on ticking.

So, yeah. I have to agree that they are the toughest watches of all time.

I've had the exact opposite experience. Rubber doesn't allow my arm to breathe and causes more sweating so you end up with more stink. No worries now though. I've given up on watches.

I've been wearing zulu straps for about 2 years, and my first one still smells fine even though it gets as hot as 110F with high humidity here. I also keep my watch on when showering so I don't bother about cleaning it.

Although G-Shocks are amongst the toughest watches that are currently made, Casio their other watches are quite tough too. Before I learned about G-Shocks, I had a few simple classic Casio's that I also took with me on canoeing and hiking trips. The price-toughness ratio of the Casio watches is hard to beat.

Solar powered watches are nice and I read on the watch forums that their rechargeable batteries should last 10 or even 20 years. But several brands have watches now that run for about 10 years on regular batteries and from what I've read, those batteries are cheaper and easier to replace.
