I wanted a DMT Diasharp but my wife won me a Duosharp Coarse/Fine online (hopefully I won't have any problems with the tips of my knives).

What stone would compliment my Diamond duosharp that I can buy from Woodcraft?

I was thinking either
1000/6000 Combo
800/4000 Combo
1200 King
4000 King Ice Bear

OR I can just save up and buy a Shapton, Bester, or Naniwa.

Wood Craft is a good store. They also sell Hand American compressed leather which makes great stropping surfaces.

I found that you will not find everything that you see in their paper catalog or the internet...at the store. If it's a lengthy drive for ya, you may want to call ahead to see if what you are looking for is available there.

For instance, I found out the hard way, that while they list many DMT products, most are drop-shipped to you right from DMT.

Thanks for the advice. I called earlier in the week and they had the 1000 king stone but maybe I should call again since the store is 40 min away.

Crap! They only have the 1000 grit, the 800/4000, Ice Bear 4000. Would going from a Fine DMT to a 4000 Ice Bear be too big of a jump?

I'd found out last week, to my dismay, that my local Woodcraft store doesn't stock the Hand American leather anymore, and apparently hasn't in a while. The employee I talked to wasn't even aware that they ever did carry it (I bought a piece there a year or more ago). It's not even listed in their paper catalog anymore. I'd mentioned this in another thread, and at least one reply indicated the same issue at another store, so I'm wondering if they (Woodcraft) are pulling it from their line?

It is still listed via the woodcraft.com website, although I haven't yet tried ordering thru that channel.

Making a big jump in grit sizes will not 'hurt' anything. The difference would be in the length of time required to polish out the scratch marks. You could do ALL your sharpening, including profiling, using only a 12,000 grit stone, but it would take you a loooooong time. Using the intermediate grits saves a lot of time and energy.

If I remember correctly, the grit size of the Fine DMT is about 600-800? If so, jumping directly to a 4000 will be a large one. It can be done, but will take a while. Why not just pick up a sheet of 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper to use between them and save yourself a hour's work?
