Actually, I was hoping that one of you turkeys :D could help me figure out what a particular rifle scope combination might be worth. I have a friend who is looking to sell a Winchester Model 70 "Black Shadow" rifle in 7mm with a Ziess 3.5-10 44mm scope. He describes the condition as good. The scopes sell new for about $600. I'm totally unsure of the retail price of the rifle because I think Winchester is done with firearms. Any help in determining the value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - DT

GunsAmerica has 2 Winchesters for $425 each, and a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10 x 44 matte finish for $520.

So it looks like that combo should sell for about $950.

I'd look it over before setting a price. "Good" condition could mean anything from barely shot to worn-out barrel. I'd think the Model 70 would bring a little more than normal since they're no longer made.

The value of U.S. made winchesters seems to be skyrocketing. Winchester was bought out, and their CT plant was closed. All current production models of guns were discontued and now new designs are imported with the winchester name.
About 2 years ago (prior to them being bought out) I bought a like new model 1300 shotgun for $200 at a gunshow. Going rate in stores was about $225.
About 2 weeks ago a local shop had a totally beat up model 1300, hacked up wood, very little blueing etc. on the rack for $299. I mentioned it to one of the guys working the counter and he said that the imported winchesters weren't that great.

So all that said, I would list the gun high, or maybe even hold onto it for awhile if you don't need the money. I think the "black shadow" model, was one of the more common ones IIRC, and the synthetic stock probably won't bring as much as a wood stock in good condition would, but it still may bring more than you think. 7mm is a fairly popular chambering so that helps out as well.

Just wanted to say thanks for the replies. Good info all the way around. This is why I really like this community. Any additional responses would also be appreciated. -DT
