Received a pacakge today from GoingGear.com (thanks Storl - fast shipping). Bought a couple ferro rods, strikers, keychain containers, and two wallet magifiers.

The ferro rods are great! I was able to throw a lot of sparks with the strikers and my Rat folder. I reallly prefer these to the light my fire strikers. The shavings burn a lot longer.

If you're going to order the ferro rods I suggest you at least order two. Why? Because if your like me you'll be throwing sparks for a week lighting everything in sight on fire!

Here's a size comparison. I got the 4 x 1/2 inch one and the 5x3/8 one. They are huge!! The first pic is next to a LMF and my Rat folder.

I have some of the same stuff from GG. Highly recommend. Where did you get the rat folder?

I can't remember. I got it from one of these two companies. I've ordered from both of them and had great service. The Rat is one of my Favorit folders. You get a LOT of knife for less than $30. I like it better than some of my more expensive knives.

Nice score ... that 1/2 inch rod looks beastly, I've got a few of the 3/8 ones.

My wife bought me a few goodies from Going Gear over the holidays. I like the rods quite a bit. Actually, it took me about 10 minutes to fashion (a not so good looking, but functional) handle using one of my spend cedar bow drill, drills. Just shaped it with my knife (always good to use one of those), and drilled it out with a drill bit then epoxided the rod in place. Works just as good as the professional fitted ones, just not so pretty. But, I'm not so handsome myself and I hate it when my tools are prettier than I am.

That's exactly why I bought the second one without the handle. I'm going to do the same thing with a piece of fatwood. Rod and tinder in one piece.

If they don't find you handsome, at lease they should find you handy.
