Gold member PM offer to buy from Basic member in trade thread?

I know basic members are not allowed to post for sale threads, but can post in the trading forum. My question is: Can a gold member PM a basic member an offer to purchase outright without being in violation of forum/exchange rules?

Your place to trade knives, tools, and gear. No selling!

Basic members are not allowed to sell. I'm sure I saw specific commentary on this; but don't have the time right now to go looking for it
