Thanks, but this isn't my first Rodeo. It's a long-standing difficulty; I'd just hoped some of the challenges had been addressed by now.

I recommended a [tongue-in-cheek!] change to the payment screen text a few years back, in light of the posted "up to 72 hours" time frame that consistently proves to have no bearing on actual practice, save (it would seem) for delightfully circumstantial timing:

Any transaction that requires manual activation, such as membership prorations, gift memberships, member name changes, or international memberships (including when international members are the recipients of a domestic member's gift) will incur an additional $5 fee and require a waiting period of anywhere from 72 hours to 4 weeks before completion, possibly longer.

Even after your payment specifying the services purchased is successfully completed, ie, your money has been accepted and a transaction number has been generated, you must make a public post in the Tech Support subforum in order to 1) alert the Button Pusher(s) that Bladeforums has your money, as per the details in the PayPal transaction and 2) prompt action on the product requested and paid for and 3) spoil the surprise.

[Okay, so the last one isn't a goal, but the collateral outcome of trying to gift someone a membership.]

If the service you are waiting for has not been provided, this could mean your transaction failed, it was missed, or it simply has not yet been acted upon.

Please keep bumping your Service Request Thread in the Tech Support Subforum until the Button Fairy appears.

(There is evidently a mysterious art to effective Bumping, and Magic in the timing of transaction fulfillments.)

I'm wondering if I should maybe have just PayPal'ed you the membership money directly, but that seems a less elegant solution. Effective, but somehow crass. :(

Sad to see this is an ongoing issue. I'd have gifted a couple of Golds myself this year, but have been put off by how much trouble it was last time :( Good luck :thumbup:
