Gold membership prorate

I just upgraded and need my membership prorated. I'm a little unclear on "prorated". Does that mean my membership is extended for a year at gold status from this point on, or does it mean I get charged less than $25 (since I joined in January) and my membership will end in January?

Did you upgrade from Registered User or Basic?

If from Registered User, no pro-rate is necessary. Your Gold begins now and runs for a year. The system is supposed to generate an email to remind you shortly before the Gold expires. You can also go to Settings > Paid Subscriptions at any time and see how much time you have left.

If you upgraded from Basic, Spark will take the unused Basic time and convert it to the Gold rate, extending your Gold.

You don't need a prorate when you just buy a membership. Only if you upgrade from one level to another while the previous paid subscription is still active.

I just bought a gold membership, but it's still saying registered user. However I have PM's and other gold stuff. Does it just take time to kick in?

Go to Settings and then to permission groups and click on Gold.

Click on Settings at the top of the page, next to Log Out:

In the My Settings list in the left column, click on Permission Groups under My Account:

Choose Gold Member under User Group, click "Update Display Group"...

... and you should be Golden.
