Well here's my story and a plug for BFC. As you can see if you look at my profile I got here in 2000 and I loved it! Spent a lot of time and money just ENJOYING knife related activities and reading. In fact this site made my subscriptions to several knife related magazines obsolete and I cancelled them all. Oh I stuck around awhile, although things did change when I had my first child. Knife activities, and martial arts training, had to go bye bye for a long time and I only used the site to sell some items when I was flat broke (preemie babies, mounting medical bills can cause this lol), but things have settled down and I find myself getting back to what I love. In fact I remember when Spark first went the paid membership levels and I was so upset at the time (I was a cheap SOB in my youth). As I matured (OMG did I just admit to getting old?) I have to come to see the reasons for these changes back then, and the need for paid memberships even more so now. As I contemplated pulling the trigger on a Spyderco Tenacious a few days ago I seemed to have had an epiphany: the cost of that Tenacious would have covered the Gold Membership here. The Tenacious will still be around, and that $30 burning holes in my pocket seemed destined for someplace soon. So WHY NOT HERE? I lurk more than I post, buy more than I sell (usually), but I ENJOY the camaraderie I experience here with so many like minded individuals. The site has changed much in my time away, but all for the better. So here's to BFC, the members who haven't done so yet, and future members: Go GOLD. It's a very small price to pay for the immense amount of information and goods that are available. No, I did not write this post because I am trying to start a membership drive. I'm writing it to simply say a very long winded THANK YOU to all the participants and our hosts.
