Does Spyderco no longer make knives there???

Inquiring minds wish to know!:sorrow:

Okay. I just thumbed through the catalog that came with my MT18, and all of them that I looked at, including the Military came from Asia. So I was curious.

There will be more manufacturing capacity at Golden, CO in the Fall as Sal has mentioned and it was also in a Denver Post piece.

... the capacity in Golden to keep up with current Millie models won't be expanding until after SEP (When the new building will be finished).

Military from Asia? Is this a change for 2014? I knew all Military were made in USA.

Might want to check that again :)

Military is on page 13 of the 2014 catalog and says USA

Or is the print version different?

I heard when Sal drops dookie, it is pure iron, because he eats at Davie's Chuck Wagon on Colfax. This alone will insure Golden made knives.....

Interesting read in that article. If they produce high quality carbon fiber sailboats, why don't we see some solid carbon fiber scales on knives? I have no gripes with the current CF/G10 combo, but there are posts without number where individuals have purchased some pretty sweet carbon fiber scales for knives.... just a thought...

But we do see solid carbon fiber scales on knives. Anything made in Golden that used carbon fiber (Dodo, Military, T-Mag, UKPK, Manix 2, Para 2, etc.) or Japan (Caly 3, Caly 3.5, Superhawk, Delica, Cricket, Shabaria, Native 4, Stretch, Tim Zowada, Balance, etc.) were solid CF. There may have been an exception or two, but none that I can recall. AFAIK, only Taiwan uses the CF/G-10 laminate. Interestingly, I prefer the look and texture of the twill carbon fiber/G-10 over any of the solid carbon fiber offerings, though the CF on the Dodo is a close second.

As to Spyderco's relationship with carbon fiber

HI Rycen. very nice find. A special piece.

The Michael Walker C22. A Spyderco, Michael Walker, HP Klotzli collaboration. Early 90's.

First production carbon fiber handle.
First production nested Walker-linerlock.
First production colored titanium.
Only Swiss made production Spyderco.
Custom made phosphure bronze pivot.

The Carbon fiber came from the Sauber F1 race team.
The knife was built for us by HP Klotzli.
My wife, Gail carries one as an EDC.

We made about 1000 of them. About half were "shiny" CF and half buffed.

Thee was also an aluminum version and an FRN version.
